Cedar Creek Animal Hospital - Our Doctor and Staff

Dr. Sue Johnson (Owner):

Yes, Dr. Johnson went to A&M!  ...Although not right away. Her undergraduate degree is from UT Austin (Hook'em Horns!), and she spent a few years after that working, traveling and studying other things.

But after stumbling across a vet school open house at Cornell University, Dr. Johnson discovered her true passion and returned to school, graduating from Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 (Gig'em Aggies!).

From there she went on to spend 6 years with a small animal & exotics practice in Santa Clara, California. Then she was lured away to the United Kingdom where she spent another 6 years practicing veterinary medicine, this time in a picturesque English country village. And while she originally worried the pace would be too slow paced for her, Dr. Johnson found it to be anything but.

Eventually, though, she grew homesick enough to finally return to the US, moving first to the southern California desert for a couple of years and now finally back to north Texas where she grew up and still has strong family ties. And she's finally putting her roots back down, having become a practice owner - something she'd dreamed of for years.

Outside of work, Dr. Johnson's life currently revolves almost exclusively around her young daughter (and stolen moments with a good book) but used to (and will hopefully one day again) include hiking, biking, camping, diving, traveling and all the other adventurous things one does when unencumbered by the demands of an active 5 year old.

Warren Thompson (Head Tech/Licensed Veterinary Technician)

Warren joined Cedar Creek Animal Hospital as a permanent Licensed Veterinary Technician in May 2016 after a few sessions as a temp.  Graduating from Cedar Valley College with honors in 2012 with an A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology he spent his school years at the Dallas Zoo Hospital as an extern.  His first paying job in the field was with Zooniversity caring for the many exotic animals.  After graduating he spent two years working small animal Emergency and ICU.  Warren then moved on to UT Southwestern Medical Center for two plus years caring for the health and well being of the many research animals.  Warren’s family includes his wife Sarah and son Jason as well as the four legged family members: Manny the Shepherd/Husky rescue, Ralpf the Pug, Daisy the Village Dog rescue, and Beaux the Palomino Quarter Horse.

Melissa McBride (Veterinary Assistant)

Melissa joined our team in May 2016 from Virginia Beach, VA, where she previously worked as a veterinary assistant. Her passion for this field led her to pursue further education at Cedar Valley College and enroll in their Veterinary Technician program. She has worked with animals all her life and is looking forward to this big step! Some of her many hobbies include art, hiking, camping, traveling, and horseback riding (when she can squeeze it in!). She loves to spend time with her family and friends, and of course, her fiancé, Kyle. They have two highly energetic Belgian Malinois named Tank and Rollo and a lovely older cat, Mish Mish.  She’s looking forward to a bright future here as a veterinary technician and so are we!

Jessica Boord (Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant)

Jessica came on board in May of 2017 after taking 5 rewarding years off from the veterinary field to be a stay-at-home mom. She has worked in this area from many angles; from managing a boarding facility and doggy daycare, working as a bather for multiple groomers, running the front desk as a receptionist, to assisting technicians and veterinarians in clinics.

She grew up in Springfield, Missouri and moved to Texas in 2006 where she decided she was finally home! After a couple of years in Austin, she moved back to the countryside outside of Royse City where she now lives with her husband, Addam, daughter, Zoe, and son, Kyler. Not to mention two dogs, Sampson and Dingo, two cats, Morris and Boots, two pigs, Toby and Piggy Smalls, two peacocks, and two chickens.

Jessica is also a novice gardener with lofty dreams of starting a small vineyard in the near future.
